We size by chest measurement, not age. Girls of the same age can be two sizes apart, and nothing makes a first bra feel worse than a number on a label that doesn't match her.
How to measure
- Have her stand relaxed, arms down, wearing a thin t-shirt or nothing on top.
- Run a soft tape around the fullest part of her chest.
- Keep the tape level all the way around and don't pull it tight.
- Write the number down in inches or centimetres.
If she'd rather measure herself, let her. It takes thirty seconds and it's her body.
The chart
| Size | Chest | Weight | Height | Usually fits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M | 29½" / 75 cm | 50–66 lb | 4'5"–4'10" | 7–9 years |
| L | 31½" / 80 cm | 66–83 lb | 4'7"–5'3" | 9–11 years |
| XL | 33½" / 85 cm | 83–99 lb | 4'7"–5'3" | 11–13 years |
| XXL | 35½" / 90 cm | 99–121 lb | 4'11"–5'5" | 12–14 years |
The age column is a rough guide only. Trust the chest measurement over the age every time.
Between two sizes?
Size up. The fabric has a lot of stretch, so a slightly roomy one still sits properly — and there is nothing worse than something that feels tight when she's already a little self-conscious about wearing it.
Sizing up also buys you a few more months before the next one.
